The state-of-the-art fourth-generation nuclear submarine Yuri Dolgoruky is entering service with the Russian Navy.

The official ceremony is due Thursday in Severodvinsk, on the White Sea coast, where the submarine has been built.

The Yuri Dolgoruky is the first of the four nuclear-powered strategic missile submarines that has been built at this particular shipyard and that will become operational tomorrow.

The basic weapons of these submarines are the Bulava ICBMs, with a range of over 8,000 kilometres.
